The Department of Botany was established in 1981and Microbiology was introduced in 2006.
Botany as a subject is related to the study of plants and a career in it would mean studying in depth about plants, fungi, algae, diseases, growth, metabolism and the structure between different groups.
Microbiology is a broad discipline of biology with works with the function, structure, uses, and the existence of the microscopic organism (microorganisms).Microbiology is a broad term studying microorganisms that includes Bacteriology, Virology, Molecular biology, Mycology, Parasitology, and other branches. In the recent years, Microbiology has created a lot of buzz and gained popularity leading to a rush in the number of students who are looking forward to pursuing microbiology as a career.
Aims of the department:-

  • To motivate and guide students with quality education in Botany and Microbiology.
  • To give them a wide spectrum of latest technology and new branches associated with Botany & Microbiology as a subject.
  • To develop scientific skills.

  • The department has a library of 1127 books. It also has a book bank which offers free books to the students.
  • The department has well equipped laboratory with large number of major and minor instruments to perform all the required experiments for UG, PG and Ph.D.
  • Apart from conventional class room teaching, the students are taken on local excursion to familiarize them with local flora.
  • Separate instrumentation room with autoclave, incubator, hot air oven, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Digital pH meter, colorimeter, colony counter, water bath etc
  • Separate inoculation chamber with laminar air flow.

Research Facilities:-

  • Staff of the Botany and Microbiology Department offers Research based Job Oriented Project(JOP) training Under Graduate students and six month dissertation training to Post Graduate students of Microbiology, Botany and Biotechnology. The same trainings are open for students of other institutes too on nominal charges.
  • The students are motivated to go in the field of research, by encouraging them for internship, trainings and dissertation further authenticating their work in the form of publication. The faculty also conducts sessions with the students to explain the values for self growth and follow ethics for the betterment of society. Owing to good coordination, knowledge and talents are disseminated through a series of inter disciplinary programmes and activities for the all-round growth of students.

Dr. Renu Mishra, is currently employed as Associate Professor, Head in the Department of Botany & Microbiology, in Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhopal M.P. India since 1990. She is having 32 years of teaching experience of UG & PG class. Her current area of research interest are Aeromycology, Allergy, Soil Microbiology, Medicinal Plant and Pharmacology. She has guided 10 students (currently guiding 4) for Ph.D. and 20 M.Sc. students & more than 100 B.Sc. students for Dissertation. She had completed two UGC sponsored project as principal investigators. She has published more than 64 papers in International, National Journals & Conferences. She has received Bharat Gourav award in 2017, three best papers awards, Best Microbiology teacher award in 2018 and Senior Scientist award in 2019 by Microbiology Society of India. She has presented paper in 5th International conference on Comparative biology of Monocotyledons in New York, USA in 2013. She has awarded best poster presentation in 14th International Conference on Pharmacology & toxicology in Zuric Switzerland.

Dr. Shikha Mandloi, is presently working as Assistant Professor Microbiology in Sri Sathya College for Women, Bhopal, M.P. India. She is having an experience of 21 yr of teaching toUG and PG classes. She is Post graduate in Microbiology from University teaching Department, Barkatullah University, Bhopal in the year 1994. She was JRF in DBT sponsored project on "Development of Sustainable fermentation technology and demonstration for aseptic production of Biofertilizers" from 1996 to 1999. She obtained her Ph.D on topic "A study on antifungal activity of certain medicinal plants on aeromycoflora of Bhopal" in 2015 from Barkatullah University. She completed post graduate diploma in higher education (PGDHE) in 2021 from IGNOU. Her work areas of interest are Biofertilizer production technology, Bacteriology, Food adulteration, aeromycology, medicinal plants and pharmacology. She is associated with EPCO , Bhopal as Resource person, delivering lectures to the students of PGDEM. She is Registered guide in Microbiology in Barkatullah University, Bhopal. She has guided 17 M.Sc students for dissertation and near about 100 students of B.Sc for project work. She has completed one UGC sponsored minor reserach project as Co- investigator in 2013. She has published more than 34 papers in National and international journal and presented 06 papers in National and international conferences. She has won one best oral paper presentation award. She was jury member in DBT sponsored INSPIRE AWARD from 2011 to 2014. With the aim to impart quality education, She is working in Department of Microbiology Since 2007.

Dr. Nishi Yadav, is currently working as Assistant Professor, Microbiology, in Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhopal M.P. India since 2011. She completed her post graduation in Microbiology from University teaching Department, Barkatullah University Bhopal in the year 2011. She obtained her Ph.D. degree on topic "Investigation on Phytochemical analysis and Antibacterial potential of leaf extracts of Hyptis suaveolens L. and Coleus aromaticus Benth. on microorganisms causing Respiratory Tract Infection" in Microbiology in 2020 from Barkatullah University Bhopal. She is having an experience of 10 years of teaching to UG and PG classes. Her areas of research interest are Bacteriology, Mycology, Medical Microbiology, Medicinal Plant and Pharmacology. She has published more than 13 papers in International and National peer reviewed reputed Journals and published 3 chapters in book in conference proceeding. She has presented 9 papers in International and National conferences. She has guided number of PG & UG students for dissertation, internship and project work.
