  • The Department of Zoology was established in 1981and Biotechnology was introduced in 2005.
  • Zoology is the branch of biology concerned with the study animals and animal kingdom. It is also known as animal biology. The study of zoology includes the interaction of animal kingdom in their ecosystems such as classification, habits, structure, embryology, distribution, evolution, and extinct species.
  • Biotechnology is the use of an organism, or a component of an organism or other biological system, to make a product or process for a specific use. The basics of biotechnology refer to the application of technology to use living systems and organisms in developing new solutions for human needs. This process uses different techniques that have created a breakthrough in genetic studies and research.
  • In the recent years, Biotechnology has created a lot of buzz and gained popularity leading to a rush in the number of students who are looking forward to pursuing Biotechnology as a career.
Aims of the department:-
  • To motivate and guide students with quality education in Zoology and Biotechnology.
  • To give them a wide spectrum of latest technology and new branches associated with Zoology & Biotechnology as a subject.
  • To develop scientific skills.

  • Conducts awareness activities and local field trips to various scientific organizations.
  • Provides career counselling and career guidance to the students.
  • The department has a library of 1127 books. It also has a book bank which offers free books to the students.
  • The department has well equipped laboratory with large number of major and minor instruments to perform all the required experiments for UG, PG and Ph.D.
  • Apart from conventional class room teaching, the students are taken on local excursion to familiarize them with local flora.
  • Separate instrumentation room with autoclave, incubator, hot air oven, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Digital pH meter, colorimeter, colony counter, water bath etc.
  • Separate inoculation chamber with laminar air flow.

Research Facilities:-

  • Staff of the Biotechnology and Zoology Department offers Research based Job Oriented Project (JOP) training to UG students and six month dissertation, Internship, training to UG and PG  students of Biotechnology and Zoology with nominal charges.
  • The students are motivated to go in the field of research, by encouraging them for internship, trainings and dissertation further authenticating their work in the form of publication.
  • The faculty also conducts sessions with the students to explain the values for self growth and follow ethics for the betterment of society. Owing to good coordination, knowledge and talents are disseminated through a series of inter disciplinary programmes and activities for the all-round growth of students.
