The Department of English conducts classes for Effective Communication in English. These classes are free of cost and open to students of all faculties. The classes prepare the students for interviews etc. The students are taught about the basic communicative skills : Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. The reading exercises help to improve their pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary etc. The writing exercises include practice of letters, essays, paragraphs, summaries and reports.
In Speaking, the students are taught to introduce themselves, talk about their subject, college, give directions, narrate an incidence etc. They are also encouraged to do role-plays. These activities help the students to improve their grammar and communicative skills. The students are also taught about the presentation skills and interview techniques. Listening exercises include classroom activities. For example, one student speaking and the other narrating the same/explaining the same.
The students are provided sufficient handouts on all the above topics. The topics are supported by mini-presentations by the students.
The Department also plans to open a language lab for students interested in effective communication.
